Alfred is the historic shire town of York County — a classic New England village green ringed by white-steeple churches, the county courthouse, and antique colonials. Out from the village it opens up into farms, ponds (Shaker, Bunganut, Massabesic), and wooded lots — a quieter, more rural alternative to Sanford right next door.
